Excavation Services Built on Honesty and Transparency

ExcavationPros builds driveways, building pads, ponds, and retaining walls across Simcoe County and Muskoka. We built our online estimator because we got tired of the industry's default: a phone call, a wait for a callback, and a quote that might not even be in your budget range. We'd rather show you a realistic number first, backed by full liability insurance and WSIB coverage on every job the contractors we work with take on.

Equipment Sized to the Job

Every driveway, pad, pond, and wall project gets equipment matched to what the ground actually needs, not a one-size-fits-all approach. The fleet we draw on is sized for the range of ground we work: mid-size and compact excavators for everything from a garage pad to breaking Shield granite on a driveway route, skid steers for tight-access sites where a full-size excavator can't get in, plate and roller compactors for building proper base under a driveway or pad, and dump trucks for hauling spoil off a pond excavation or bringing material in. The contractors we work with size the equipment to the job instead of sending the same machine to every site regardless of what it needs.

Every job is backed by full liability insurance and WSIB coverage, and the crews and contractors we work with are held to one standard whether it's a single garage pad or a full pond build.

We Know This Ground

The contractors we work with have worked this region for two decades, and that kind of tenure teaches things a general excavation company working province-wide never picks up: where Shield granite tends to sit close to the surface on a given Muskoka concession road, which parts of Severn Township are workable farmland and which back onto the Shield edge, how flat Simcoe County limestone plain behaves in spring runoff, and which townships handle entrance permits which way. That local knowledge shows up in the estimate you get before a site visit, not just in the work itself.

How the Estimate-First Process Actually Works

We built the online estimator after years of watching the same pattern play out: a homeowner calls two or three excavation contractors, waits days for callbacks, and ends up comparing quotes that were never really answering the same question because each contractor asked different things and assumed different scopes. Our estimator asks the same handful of questions on every visit anyway, so we put them online first. Answer them for your specific project and you get a realistic price range in about 30 seconds, based on the same factors — length, ground conditions, access, scope — that determine cost on every job we quote.

A project manager still visits before anything is final. That visit confirms what you told us, checks for anything the questions couldn't capture (buried obstacles, exact soil composition, an existing base's real condition), and locks in the number. In our experience the final quote lands inside the online range on the large majority of projects, since the estimator is built around the same factors the crews we work with would assess in person, not a simplified version of them.

What We're Doing Each Season

The work follows the ground, not the calendar. Spring means the contractors we work with prioritize washout repairs and drainage corrections first, since that's when runoff exposes every weak point from the previous year, followed by new driveway and pad construction once the ground has firmed up. Summer is the busiest season for pond construction and pole barn pads among the contractors we work with, since a lower water table gives a cleaner excavation and drier ground supports equipment better. Fall is prime driveway-rebuild season, timed to let a new base settle before winter freeze-thaw starts working on it, and it's also when the crews we work with clear ditches and culverts before ice becomes a factor. Winter work is more limited for the contractors we work with, largely wooded-route clearing (frozen ground is easier on equipment for this) and retaining wall assessments, since base construction and compaction need ground that isn't frozen or saturated to do properly.

WSIB Insured, Fully Licensed

Every job is covered by full liability insurance and WSIB coverage, no exceptions. We meet Ontario workplace safety standards as a baseline, not a selling point. It's simply how we operate, and it's worth confirming for any contractor before you let equipment onto your property.

Where We Work, and Why We Haven't Expanded Past It

We serve Simcoe County and Muskoka: Orillia, Severn, Coldwater, Ramara, Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, and Huntsville, plus the surrounding rural and cottage-country areas in between. The contractors we work with have had opportunities to expand further over the years and turned most of them down. Knowing a region this well — which parts of Severn are workable farmland versus Shield edge, how Ramara's low-lying areas behave in a wet spring, which Muskoka township handles entrance permits which way — only comes from working it for years, not from sending a crew somewhere new for a single job. If you're outside this region, we'll tell you honestly during your estimate instead of taking on a project we can't service to the same standard.
